2nd Program of International Platform on Ocean Energy for Young Researcher 2016
(Report)

Joint Usage/Research Center, National University Corporation

Institute of Ocean Energy, Saga University (IOES)

IOES was established to contribute through the development of ocean energy to efforts to resolve the global environmental issues. IOES is mainly engaged in the fundamental and applied researches of OTEC and wave energy conversions.

Meanwhile, we create an opportunity for academic exchange. Japan-Korea joint young researcher forum has been held in inter-university collaboration between Japan and Korea over the past 10 years.

For the next leaps in the research capability and the academic exchange, 2nd Program of International Platform on Ocean Energy for Young Researcher 2016 has been held. In this program, 24 young researchers were invited from 13 areas (UK, Netherland, Egypt, Fiji, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, China, Japan). The special lectures by professors in a field of ocean energy, the presentations by young researchers were conducted in the program, and Best Presentation Awards were given to 4 persons. The young researchers debated about 2 questions ("What is the barrier to promote Ocean Energy?" and "What should we do to promote Ocean Energy?") in the group discussion. In the second half of this program, the company tour was carried out and it was finished with the short presentations about the knowledge obtained through this program.
