Concept of Institute of Ocean Energy,Saga University (IOES)
Worldwide scarcity of energy and environmental problems are afraid only to worsen in the 21st century. Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion abbr. OTEC, is the technology to convert ocean thermal energy into electric power.
The laboratory located at lmari bay area, some 50km to the north from our administrative office in Saga City, functions as our study center of fundamental and practical aspects of OTEC technology.
Our theme covers, among Other things, enhancement of. power generation efficiency, OTEC system with new concept, effective utilization of energy and energy substances to be obtained from an OTEC power plant.
Introduction of Institute
The current location of IOES, Yamashiro-machi, Imari city, is the reborn place of the former IOES facility, which was located at kurokawa-machi, Imari city. It cost 4,5 billion yen us to build new and expanded facility, which consists of 3 story buildings of 4,500m2 for experiment and research respectively. The construction work was completed in March, 2003 in the total ground area of 10,000m2. The new IOES, which is one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in the world, is expected to play the leading role of the research related to ocean energy.
